Si vous me suivez sur Facebook ou Twitter, j’avais dévoilé il y a quelques semaines une photo avec une superbe chevelure. Un rêve de réalisé, avoir les cheveux frisés et une coupe afro.

Hélas, c’était bien éphémère, le temps d’un shooting.

Mais quel shooting!

Souvenez-vous, ma première collaboration avec Gérard Rancinan, un grand photographe qui expose dans le monde entier.

La première photo était une interpretation photographique de l’Angelus de Millet à l’occasion des 150 ans de l’oeuvre, pour une série babptisé “Metamorphoses”. Je vous en parlais ici.

If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter, a few weeks ago, I unveiled a picture of myself with quite the extraordinary hair. Kind of a dream come true, to have curly hair and an afro.

Sadly it was only temporary, for a photoshoot.

But WHAT a photoshoot!

Remember my first collaboration with Gérard Rancinan, a fantastic photographer who exhibits all over the world…

The first picture was a photo interpretation of Millet’s Angelus to commemorate the 150 years of the painting, in a serie called Metamorphoses. I told you about it here.

Début février, nouveau contact de la part de son assistante Marion, Rancinan prépare un nouveau projet, encore plus monumentale, encore plus fou.

Une interprétation photographique du tableau de Thomas Couture “La décadence des romains“. 25 modèles, on me propose le personnage central, le berceau de l’humanité, rien que ça.

Le jour J est là.

Impatiente, heureuse de retrouver Gérard Rancinan, son équipe mais aussi très impressionnée car le décor est colossale, il va falloir assurer et assumer, mon personnage ne porte qu’un grand voile blanc légèrement transparent.

On m’avait parlé de ma coiffure, certainement les cheveux frisés mais je n’en savais pas plus. Quand on me présente l’immense perruque de théâtre, je saute de joie, ouiiiiii une afro!!!

Tous les personnages sont pris en charge par une équipe de coiffeurs/maquilleurs. L’équipe est archi préparée, chacun sait ce qu’il doit faire, qui il doit coiffer ou maquiller, c’est pensé comme une bataille. Des tatouages sont peints à même la peau, des effets spéciaux qu’on utilise au cinéma sont utilisés pour les scarifications, les implants.

Beginning of February, I was contacted again by his assistant, Marion, as Rancinan was preparing a new project, even bigger and crazier than before.

A photo interpretation of the Thomas Couture’s painting “La décadence des Romains”, 25 models, and I was being offered the central role, the craddle of life, just like that!

On the day, I was there.

Impatient, and very happy to meet Rancinan again, and his team, but also quite impressed by the colossal set, I knew I had to kick ass and be proud as my character was only wearing a transparent white veil.

People had told me about my hair, the curly hair indeed, but I didn’t really know anything else. When I finally got introduced to the infamous theater wig, I literally jumped in the air in excitement! An afro!!

All the characters were created by a team of hairdressers/make up artists. Everyone was incredibly well prepared and knew exactly what they had to do, it’s a bit like being on a battlefield. Tattoos are painted on the skin, special effects that you usually see in cinema are put in motion to create the scarifications, and the implants.

Plus de 4h de préparation et il est enfin temps de prendre la pause, placer les 25 personnages. Gérard Rancinan nous coache, il nous guide. La tension monte, je me concentre, comme je dois fixer l’objectif, est y donner une force, une intensité dans le regard, tout à coup je me sens comme seule.

Seule et derrière moi se dégage une énergie de fou. Une harmonie, nous formons un groupe, pour donner à Gérard Rancinan ce qu’il désire.

On enchaîne quatre ou cinq prises et on alterne avec des pauses. Ca peut paraître facile mais la concentration est extrême, quand on pose pour de telles photos, on ne peut pas se permettre de “jouer” à moitié. Non on doit être là, présent et donner tout en 2 secondes à peine.

Quatre autres heures après, fin de shooting! Rancinan est content, on se fait des câlins, alors qu’on ne se connaissait pas avant, avec tous les personnages, il y a des liens qui se sont créés.

J’en profiter pour serrer Gérard Rancinan dans mes bras, le remercier de me faire participer à de si beaux projets. Il me promet qu’on se reverra vite.

More than 4h of preparation, and it’s finally time to pose, place the 25 characters in the shot, Gérard Rancinan coaches us, guides us. The tension is high, I concentrate, as in my role, I have to look straight at the lens and and my look must be intense to go with my character, I feel almost alone in the middle of all this.

Alone, but behind me, the energy is pulsing. There is some kind of harmony, we are a group, in this together, to get the best result for Rancinan.

We do, 4, 5 takes, and we take some breaks in between. It might look easy to do but the concentration is everything, when you pose for this kind of cpitures, you can’t just be there and do nothing, you have to play the part, and do it fast in 2 secondes.

4 hours later, end of the photoshoot! Rancinan is happy, we hug a lot, there is a real connection happening with all the other models whom I had never met before.

I take a moment to hug Gérard fiercely in my arms, and thank him so very much for allow me to be a part of his wonderful projects. He promised we would see each other again soon.
